- pathogens get trapped due to obstruction at point where appendix meets the bowel
> inflammation
> gangrene and rupture
> faecal contents in peritoneal cavity > peritonitis

symptoms
A
central pain migrating to RIF anorexia nausea one or two vomits may not have moved bowels

signs
A
mild pyrexia mild tachycardia localised pain in RIF guarding rebound- ruptured appendix

rosving sign
A
pressing on left causes pain in right

psoas
A
patient keep right hip flexed

obturator
A
felxing hip internally and rotating

diagnosis
A
clinical and raised inflammatory markers
- CT useful to confirm
- diagnostic laparoscopy
- FBC- raised WCC, CRP

management
A
removal of inflamed appendix
analgesia, antipyretics
