A

What is SAD (social anxiety disorder)?

A

Social anxiety disorder that causes intense fear of social situations and person feels heavily evaluated by others. They are highly sensitive to criticism, have poor self esteem, and they have distorted views of their strengths/weakness. SAD onset is in early adolescence and there is 2 subtypes (general and specific)

What is panic?

A

Normal or extreme overwhelming form of anxiety that’s often initiated when an individual is placed in real/perceived threatening situations

What is a panic disorder?

A

Person has repeated episodes of panic. The panic attacks are abrupt surges in intense fear/discomfort. Panic attacks can be in response to a threat, or they can be random. They can physiological changes (sweat, SOB, nausea, pounding heart). People with PD will have persistent worry about additional attacks. More common in women.

What is a hoarding disorder?

A

Subset of OCD and it involves excessive acquisition of material items/they refuse to discard them. They clutter living areas and it becomes a barrier for daily living. HD is prevalent in older adults and they rarely seek treatment. It co-occurs with mood/anxiety disorders, as well as ADHD.
