A
A negative reaction of a performer to stress, often leading to over arousal

Factors affecting competitive anxiety (4)
A
- Individual Differences in the way in which people will interact with the situation
- Different types of anxiety - Trait and State Anxiety
- Anxiety can be general or specific if you suffer from high trait anxiety performers are likely to become anxious in stressful situations but not in all situations.
- Competition process - interaction between personality factors, competitive trait anxiety and the situations

Competitive trait anxiety vs Competitive state anxiety
A
Trait
- Can be seen to be part of our personality, therefore the level of anxiousness we feel are dependent upon our characteristics.
- Performers generally perceive it as threatening.
State
- Level of anxiety at a specific time in a particular situation, therefore in the lead up to and during competitive situation
