autoimmune disorder characterised by arterial and venous thrombosis, adverse pregnancy outcomes and raised levels of antiphospholipid antibodies

features of APS
A
Clots - usually VTE but also arterial embolism.
Livedo reticularis - mottled appearance on skin
Obstetric loss - recurrent miscarriages
Thrombocytopenia

Investigations for APS
A
blood tests looking for anticardiolipin antibodies, anti-beta2-GPI antibodies and positive lupus anticoagulant assay

treatment of APS
A
prophylactic aspirin, reduce risks of VTE, lower cardiovascular risk factors

what medication to use if patient presents with APS and VTE
A
warfarin, INR 2-3
