GI upset
Hepatopathy
Antifungals: mechanisms of actions (3)
Inhibits synthesis of ergosterol - safest, mammals don’t have this
Inhibit cell division
Disrupt cellular metabolism
Ketoconazole: use, administration (2)
Otitis or dermatitis caused by Malassezia spp.
Topical - Otic, dermal
PO
Itraconazole: uses (2)
Superficial mycoses, including dermatophytosis
System mycoses
Terbunafine: use
Superficial mycoses, including dermatophytosis
Griseofulvin: brand name, use, administration, side effects (2)
Fulvicin
Dermatophytosis only
PO - with a fatty meal or corn oil
High risk!
Hepatopathy
Bone marrow suppression
Amphotericin B: use, side effect/caution
Serious systemic mycoses that do not respond to other antifungals
Very narrow therapeutic index
High risk of renal toxicity, even at appropriate dose
