MOA: Inhibits the formation of the initiation complex on 50S
USE: gram-positive mainly
AE:
-GI distress
-Bone marrow suppression (TCP)
-Optic/peripheral neuropathy
DI: MAOI/SSRI = serotonin syndrome
-HTN crisis if with tyramine foods
ZOLA is POS that MS GOB is 50
Tetracyclines
– Doxycycline – Tetracycline – Minocycline – Tigecycline
MOA: bind to 30S subunit and inhibit aminoacyl tRNA binding
USE: broad spec
AE:
-GI
-Bone/teeth
-Phototoxicity
DI: Cations (antacids/Ca/Mg/Fe)
CI: Children / Pregnancy
CPC is 30 and eats PBG on HER BICYCLE
Macrolides
– Azithromycin – Erythromycin – Clarithromycin
MOA: bind to 50S subunit, inhibit Peptidyl-tRNA
USE: broad spec
AE:
-GI
-Hepatoxicity
-Cardiac: QTP
DI: CYP / PGP
Mac is on CH G50
Clindamycin
MOA: bind to 50S subunit, inhibit Peptidyl-tRNA
USE: Gram + / Anaerobes
