Antibiotics Flashcards
Tetracycline
Gets in between ….
Streptomycin
Inhibit protein sythesis by irreversibly binding to the SOS subunit of the prokaryotic ribosomes. This either causing the ribosome to mistranslated mRNA, producing aberrant proteins or causing premature release of the ribosomes from the mRNA, which stops sythesis. Also destroys outer membrane of G- bacteria.
Penicillin
Binds to deactivate the enzyme that cross links to the NAM sub units of peptiglycan.
Choromphrnicol
Large subunit
Neomycin
Inhibit protein synthesis by irreversibly binding to the 30 S subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes.causing it to mistranslate. Producing aberrant proteins, or causing premature release of ribosome from mRNA, which stops synthesis.
Erythromycin
Act by binding to the SOS subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes and preventing the elongation of nascent protein.
