What is the pre-pregnancy councelling that can be done in primary care
- general health advice such as optimising: BMI, diet and reduce alcohol
- Smoking cessation
- Take folic acid
- Take vit D

Aspirin
When is the first scan done for anomalies in pregnancy and what does the first visit scan look for
11-14 weeks
- ensures viable pregnancy
- If more than one foetus
- Down syndrome screening
When is the detailed anomaly scan done in pregnancy and what does it look for
19-20 weeks
- structural review of the baby
- Identify issues that may require postnatal treatment
What is nuchal translucency and what is a high NT associated with

What is anencephaly and what is the usual outcome if it is found in the first trimester ultrasound
Ancephaly - skull has not formed properly which is unsurvivable so the pregnancy has to be terminated
