  • Describe twisting episode where they invert their ankle
  • Pain
  • Tenderness
  • Swelling
  • Sometimes able to weight bear, differentiates from fracture

INVESTIGATIONS

First choice

A
  • X-ray to eliminate fracture
    • Done if tenderness on posterior malleolus or inability to weight bear

General principles

A
  • Initial treatment with RICE
  • Analgesia - NSAID
  • Physiotherapy
  • Surgery rarely indicated
