Treat Hypertension and heart failure. and protect the kidney functions in patients with diabetes mellitus.

NOTE: ace inhibitor side effects= captopril
-Cough
-Anaphylaxis=allergic reaction
-Palpitations
-Taste changes aka alter TASTE
-Orthostatic Hypotension
-Potassium increase=hyperkalemia
-Renal impairment
-Impotence=inability of a man to have an orgasm
-Leukocytosis= elevated white blood cell count
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dry mouth
- Angioedema
- Steven Johnson Syndrome
- headache
- dizziness
Nursing implications for ACE inhibitors?
- monitor blood pressure=orthostatic hypotension
- Monitor BUN and creatinine due to renal impairment
- monitor electrolytes and wbc due to potassium increase and leukocytosis
What is ace inhibitors contraindicated in?
