Anatomy (Skin) Flashcards
1
Q
Superficial Fascia
A
- Deep to the dermis
- Superficial Fatty Layer and deeper, thinner, membranous layer
- Thickness depends on region of body
2
Q
Deep (investing) Fascia
A
- Deep to the superficial fascia
- Layer of connective tissue
- Covers muscles
3
Q
Fascial Cleft
A
- Separates the superficial fascia from deep fascia
- Allows two layers to glide on each other
- Loosely attached on top of hand, but tightly attached on palm of hand
4
Q
Epidermis
A
- Skin
- Most superficial
- Nonvascular
- Sensory nerves terminate in its deepest layers
- Thickest in palms and soles
5
Q
Epidermis Derivatives
A
- Sweat glands
- Sebaceous gland
- Hair
- Nails
6
Q
Dermis
A
- Skin
- Deeper and thicker than epidermis
- Contains promoinent BV’s and nerves
7
Q
Subserous Fascia
A
- Present in thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic cavities
- supporting tissue for serous membranes that protect visceral organs of the body cavities
- Contained in mesentery of small intestine
- Specialized form of deep fascia
8
Q
Subcutaneous Injection Site
A
- Superficial fascia
9
Q
Tension Lines and Scarring
A
- Indicate primary direction of collagen fibers in dermis
- Incisions should be made parallel to TL’s to lessen scarring
10
Q
Simple Suturing of Skin
A
- Extend into or below dermis since it contains BV’s
- Dermis must come together from both sides
