Anatomy (Anterior Forearm & Hand) Flashcards
1
Q
Compartments of Palm and Limits
A
Anterior - Palmar Aponeurosis
Lateral - Thenar Septum
Medial - Hypothenar Septum
Posterior - Palmar Interosseous Fascia
2
Q
Palmar Aponeurosis Function
A
- Doesn’t allow the superficial fascia to move around
3
Q
Opponens Pollicis Function
A
- Allows thumb to touch fingertips (apposition)
4
Q
Innervation of adductor pollicis
A
- Ulnar nerve innervates all of them
5
Q
Synovial Sheath Function
A
- Encloses tendons of flexor & extensor muscles to reduce friction during movement
6
Q
Carpal Tunnel Cause & Treatment
A
Cause - Synovial sheaths become inflamed and press on median nerve due to lack of space in carpal tunnel
Treatment - rest, avoid aggrevating movement, carpal tunnel ligament release (thickness still holds down tendons)
7
Q
Fracture of Common Carpal Bones
A
- Fractured Scaphoid
- Caused by pressure on hand and provides pain in anatomical snuff box
8
Q
Carpal Bone’s
A
- “Some Lovers Try Positions” “That They Can’t Handle”
Proximal Row (Radius to Unlar):
- Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform
Distal Row (Radius to Ulnar):
- Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate
