Anatomy of the heart III Flashcards
What volume of blood does the heart receive every minute?
250 ml/min
Where is blood transported to during ventricular relaxation?
The Myocardium
Locations of the Coronary Arteries?
Left Coronary Artery (LCA):
Anterior Interventricular artery (front of heart between ventricles)
Circumflex artery (back of heart)
Right Coronary Artery (RCA):
Marginal artery (along right ventricle)
Posterior Interventricular artery (back of heart)
What is coronary circulation?
Supply of blood to the heart muscles itself (happens first) (myocardium)
What type of coronary arteries are there?
- Left coronary artery
- Right coronary artery
What takes blood away from the heart muscle?
- Coronary sinus
What drains into the coronary sinus?
- Great cardiac vein
- Middle cardiac veins
- Small cardiac veins
What technique can be used to observe obstructed blood flow in the coronary arteries?
angiography
What is PATENCY?
condition of being unobstructed (normal)
What are the components of the conducting system in the heart?
- Sinoatrial node
- Atrioventricular node
- AV bundle/Bundle of His
- Right and left bundle branches
- Purkinje fibres
What does the Cardiac conducting system do?
coordinates effective heart contraction
What does the cardiac conducting system consist of and what do they do?
Non-contractile cells that initiate electrical impulses
How does the foetus receive oxygen and nutrients?
Oxygen and nutrients are received through placenta via the umbilical vein
What is the Foramen ovale ?
Pore in-between the right and left atrium, allows blood exchange (bypasses(bypass means that blood does not flow there) the right ventricle and whole pulmonary system)
What is the ductus venosous?
Its what the umbilical vein subdivides into when bring oxygenated blood/nutrients to foetus (bypasses liver)
