Anatomy: Leg Circulation Flashcards
Name the fascia on the thigh.
fascia lata
Name the fascia on the (lower) leg.
crural fascia
Name the fascia on the forearm
antebrachial fascia
where are the superficial veins located
within the superficial fascia
Where are the deep veins located
deep to the deep fascia and in cavities eg NVB
what is an end artery
the only blood supply to a given area of the body( no collaterals)
what is infarction
irreversible cell death due to hypozia caused by loss of blood supply
What is important to remember about end arteries when performing surgery
MUST NOT use adrenaline containing anaestetic solution when performing surgery in the vicinity of end arteries
what is ischaemia
inadequate oxygenation of cells/tissue/organ due to an interustion to blood supply (arterial or venous)
what causes ischaemia
reduced arterial perfusion pressure
increased venous drainage pressure
what causes reduced arterial perfusion pressure
left ventricular failure arterial bleed arterial rupture occlusion of lumen (atherosclerosis) arterial spasm external compression
what may cause increased venous drainage pressure
right (congestive) cardiac failure
DVT
external compression
what does the popliteal artery bifurcate into
anterior and posterior tibial artery
what branches off the anterior tibial artery
dorsalis pedis artery
what branches off the posterior tibial artery
medial and lateral plantar arches
