The auriculotemporal nerve and the greater auricular nerve
The auriculotemporal nerve and the greater auricular nerve are both nerves that provide sensory innervation to the ear, but they have different areas of the ear that they supply:
Auriculotemporal nerve
A branch of the mandibular nerve that provides sensation to the tragus, crus, and ascending helix of the ear. It also provides sensation to the tympanic membrane and the medioventral part of the pinna.
Greater auricular nerve
A branch of the cervical plexus that provides sensation to the lobule, antitragus, antihelix, scapha, external acoustic meatus, postauricular sulcus, helix, and concha of the ear.
