Anatomy/Anatomical Position (Quiz 1/Test 1) Flashcards
What is the spine?
consists of 24 moveable vertebrae
spine also refers to any portion of the spine, for example- cervical spine
What is the spinal column?
spine, sacrum, and coccyx
consists of 26 bones
also called backbone
sacrum and coccyx are immoveable vertebrae
What is referred to as false vertebra?
sacrum (multiple segments but only 1 vertebra= unusual)
What does a +Y mean?
superior (going upward, anti-gravity)
What does -Y mean?
inferior (going downwards towards gravity)
What does +Z mean?
towards anterior/forward
What does -Z mean?
towards posterior/backwards
What does +X mean?
towards the left
What does -X mean?
towards the right
Where is X = 0?
anatomical position on the median/midline
What planes (X, Y, or Z) exist on a mid-sagittal plane?
Y and Z plane (can see superior/inferior and anterior/posterior)
T/F: there is an infinite number of sagittal, coronal, transverse, and oblique planes
true
T/F: all sagittal and coronal planes intersect organism
false
What is another name for coronal plane?
frontal or mid-coronal plane
What planes (X, Y, or Z) exist on a coronal plane?
X and Y plane (can see left/right and superior/inferior)
What is another name for transverse plane?
horizontal, mid-transverse plane, or cross-sections
What planes (X, Y, or Z) exist on a transverse plane?
X and Z plane (can see left/right and anterior/posterior)
What planes (X, Y, or Z) exist on an oblique plane?
X, Y, and Z planes (can see left/right, superior/inferior, and anterior/posterior)
Which plane has an infinite number but is not always necessarily parallel?
oblique plane
What is the position of the the radius and ulna when in anatomical position?
parallel (when palms face anteriorly)
What does caudal mean?
closer to tail/feet
On what plane does rotation occur?
transverse plane
On what plane does lateral flexion occur?
coronal/frontal plane
On what plane does bending forward/stretching backwards occur?
sagittal plane
define dorsiflexion
pointing toes upward
define plantarflexion
going on tippy toes
define protraction/protusion
protraction is moving scapulae laterally
protrusion is jutting jaw forward
define retraction/retrusion
retraction is moving scapulae medially
retrusion is moving jaw back
