Anatomy - Abdomen Flashcards
What Is the greater omentum composed of and what does it connect?
- 4 layers of visceral peritoneum
- Connects stomach and proximal duodenum to transverse colon
What is the lesser omentum composed of and what does it connect?
- 2 layers of visceral peritoneum
- Consists of hepatogastric ligament and hepatoduodenal ligament
- Connects stomach and proximal duodenum to liver
What are the 2 compartments of the greater sac?
Where are they loacted and what doi they contain?
Supracolic compartment - above transverse mesocolon, contains stomach, liver and spleen
Infracolic compartment - below transverse mesocolon, contains small intestine, ascending and descending colon
Where is the lesser sac located?
What connects it to the greater sac?
Posterior to stomach and lesser omentum
Epiploic foramen
Whjat are the 3 midline branches of the aorta?
Coeliac trunk
Superior mesenteric artery
Inferior mesenteric artery
At what level is the coeliac trunk located?
What are its 3 main branches?
T12
Left gastric artery
Splenic artery
Common hepatic artery
What is the course of the left gastric artery?
Ascends across diaphragm
Anastomoses with right gastric artery
Has oesophageal branch then continues along lesser curve of anterior stomach
What is the course of the splenic artery?
Along superior margin of pancreas
5 terminal branches to the spleen
Branches = left gastroepiploic, short gastric and pancreatic
What are the 2 terminal branches of the common hepatic artery?
What are their branches?
Proper hepatic artery - right gastric and right and left hepatic arteries
Gastroduodenal artery - right gastroepiploic and superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries
At what level is the superior mesenteric artery?
What does it supply?
L1
Supplies midgut from duodenum to proximal 2/3 of transverse colon
What are the branches of the superior mesenteric artery?
Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery
Jujunal and ileal arteries
Middle and right colic arteries
Ileocolic artery
What is the first branch of the superior mesenteric artery?
What is its course and what does it supply?
Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery
Anastomoses with superior pancreaticoduodenal artery
Supplies inferior head of pancreas, unicate process and duodenum
Where are the jejunal and ileal arteries located?
What do they form?
What are the differences between the jejunal and ileal arterial supply?
Between mesentery layers
Form anastomotic arcades
Jejunal = - arcades, longer vasa recta
Ileal = + arcades, shorter vasa recta
What do the middle and right colic arteries supply?
Middle = supplies transverse colon
Right = supplies ascending colon
Where does the ileocolic artery branch off to?
What is the clinical relevance?
Ascending colon, appendix, caecum and ileum
Appendicular artery = ligated during appendectomy
