immediate immunologic reaction btwn s specific antigen and an antibody
primary chemical mediators are responsible for symptoms…potent vasoactive mediators
cellular degranulation: histamines and prostaglandins
bradykinin- vasodilation and increased capillary permeability
mild systemic reactions
peripheral tingling and sensation warmth
nasal congestion, periorbital swelling, pruritus, sneezing, and tearing of eyes
moderate systemic reactions
flushing, warmth, anxiety, itching
severe systemic reactions
bronchospasm, laryngeal edema, severe dyspnea, cyanosis, hypotension
Medical management
abcs
no not delay giving epinephrine
iv fluids
anti-histamines and corticosteroids
monitor for rebound reaction 4-8 hrs
