Sequence analysis 1 mark monsoon recording back to black
We hear the non-diegetic interview of rosnson and put into perspective of what he hears of Amy and his personal opinion. We directly hear from him that she sings songs about her life and this can be foreshadowed through the Wagner music lyrics put on screen. mays song is diegetic t the start then progresses with medium shots of Amy and non-diegetic sound of the song with masking lyrics which creates a deeper polsemys. We are aligned with Amy and again put into the perspective of a hidden camera; th press. The song shifts to diegetic where we hear her repeat black “sounds depressing at the end” The deliberate use is to foreshadow her life and what us as a passive spectatorship audience know.- empathy
Sequence analysis 2- Amy trying drugs with Blake in flat
The camera is shot by Blake where we may see from a friends perspective of her mental image and the flat image- untidy the audience create Stuart receptions of this. We are at a spectators gaze and see an intra diegetic between the relationship. The focus on Amy with the narration of Blake creates a solar deeper meaning. The den project captures footage of Amy struggling to stay awake again at a paparazzi view and how the audience may feel sympathy towards her. The accentuation of the parpazzi shows her ambivalent nature with fame
Sequence 2 continuation of mays overdose
As the camera fades in with the interviews narration the audience are suddenly an active spectator as the near may be seeking and are in an uncomfortable position. We are in an extra diegetic with horizontal and vertical pictures of Amy. Her interview reins are constantly reporting the story of Blake saying she has overdosed The juxtaposition of Amy overdosing with Blake being presently narrating casts a villain portrayal of him as a ahcaracter. Creates a binary opposite to her at the start
What power has kapadlia got over this documentary?
the way kapadia has never exposed the interviews with showingt their faces creates a very adoselance meaning towards the film. The over dialogue lets them create the whole picture of the story and makes us see what they thought in their eyes as if they were talking to her. This gives a very powerful effect to the audience and creates a biased view of kapadias. The use of never interviewing the father only the mother again creates a villain urge with her father “he presented me in the worst possible light”
