Alzheimer's Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Alzheimer’s Disease
A
neocortex damage and buildup of amyloid proteins in brain leading to plaques that decrease Ach / Glutamate
2
Q
Glutamate (MSG)
A
memory and learning
AMPA/Kainate R: binding leads to opening and depolarization
NMDA R: MG bound to it - needs depolarization for the magnesium to unbind and channel opens for calcium influx (DAMAGE)
3
Q
Cholinesterase Inhibitor (indirect intermediate)
A
Donezepil, Rivastigmine, Galantamine
Anorexia, Tremor, N/D, Bradycardia, Myalgia
4
Q
Glutaminergic Antagonist
A
binds to NMDA R and inhibits calcium influx
Memantine
Confusion, anxiety, chills, cough, dry mouth
LESS TOXIC THAN INDIRECT
