What color are precision approach runway edge lights?
All white, until the last 2,000 feet remaining, then they become amber (yellow).
What does SFL stand for and what are they?
SFL – Sequenced Flashing Lights (aka Rabbit Lights) and they are a part of the approach light system.
What does RCLS stand for and what are they?
RCLS – Runway Centerline Light System. These are lights along the centerline and they are all white.
What does TDZL stand for and what are they?
TDZL – Touchdown Zone Lights. These are very bright rows of lights that are recessed into the runway in the touchdown zone (first 3,000 feet of the approach end of the runway).
What does REIL stand for and what are they?
REIL stands for Runway End Identifier Lights and they are located on each side of the runway threshold at the approach end of the runway.
What does VASI stand for and what are they?
VASI – Visual Approach Slope Indicator lights. They are located on the side of a runway and are a visual aid for the glide slope.
What does PCL stand for?
Pilot Controlled Lighting.
What does ARFF stand for?
Airport Rescue and Firefighting. There are 5 categories (A, B, C, D, E) in the United States.
What is a CTAF?
Common Traffic Advisory Frequency - This is the frequency pilots use to communicate with one another if the tower is closed.
What is CFIT?
Controlled Flight Into Terrain.
