Airplane General Flashcards
You see a flashing Amber OPEN light next to the COCKPIT DOOR switch (with the associated aural alarm).
What does this mean?

Someone in the cabin has started an emergency access procedure
With the EMER EXIT LT switch in the ARM position, what causes the emergency lighting system to illuminate?
- Exit signs, overhead emergency, and floor proximity lights illuminate with loss of normal electric power
- EXIT signs only with excessive cabin altitude
- The EXIT signs will illuminate with landing gear extension if the NO SMOKING switch is in AUTO
With the STROBE switch in AUTO, when do the strobe lights operate?

They come on automatically weight off wheels
With the LAND switches selected OFF, what is the status of the landing lights?

Landing lights are extended but OFF
Which lights illuminate with EMER EXIT LT selected ON? (Also, How long will the batteries last if activated?)

Overhead emergency, EXIT signs, floor proximity emergency escape path marking system are illuminated.
NOTE: Internal battereies (EPSUs) are not charged in this position and may only last 10 minutes when in use
What happens to the nose wheel response to tiller input as ground speed increases?
Nose wheel deflection response to tiller input is reduced as ground speed increases
What does a FAULT light in the TERR PB mean?

- Terrain detection function failure
- Basic modes 1-5 still operational
What will occur if the TERR PB is selected OFF?
Inhibits the database terrain deteciton function and keep the basic GPWS modes 1-5 operative
What does the GPWS SYS FAULT light indicate?
Basic GPWS mode 1 to 5 malfunction
What is inhibited when the G/S MODE PB is selected OFF?
Mode 5 glideslope mode (“GLIDE SLOPE” aural) is inhibited
What will occur if you select the FLAP MODE push button OFF?
Flap mode 4 “TOO LOW FLAPS” is inhibited to avoid nuisance warnings when landing with a reduced flap setting
What occurs when the LDG FLAP 3 PB is selected ON?
Flap mode 4 “TOO LOW FLAPS” is inhibited when FLAPS CONF 3 is selected. In this case, the ECAM LDG MEMO displays “FLAPS….3” instead of “FLAPS…FULL”
AFT AVIONICS COMPARTMENT
Do we receive an ECAM notification whent he SMOKE light illuminates and aural alert annunciates?
No. System is aftermarket and has no suppression or ECAM alert
AFT AVIONICS COMPARTMENT
What does the RACK POWER SMOKE light and associated aural alert indicate?
Smoke detected in the aft avionics rack
If the SMOKE light in the RACK POWER illuminates and the associated aural alert is present; would you expect to see an associated ECAM?
The aft avionics rack smoke detection system is not connected to the FWCs, therefore you will not get an ECAM message
If an emergency access is initiated, how much time do you have to select “LOCK” in order to prevent unauthorized access to the flight deck
- Select the LOCK position within 30 seconds of the start of the emergency access procedure to deny entry
- The cockpit door is locked, and emergency access is denied for 5 minutes
Which cockpit lighting is available on battery power only?
The RH (FO) dome light is available with battery power
CAPT flood lights work as well (not in L&S)
With the EMER EXIT LT selector to ARM, when will the overhead emergency lights illuminate?
Loss of normal electrical power
With the EMER EXIT LT selector to ARM, when will the EXIT SIGNS illuminate?
Loss of normal electrical power
Excessive cabin altitude
With NO SMOKING sign in AUTO, EXIT signs also come on with L/G down
With the EVAC switch in the CAPT position and an alert activated from the CABIN, what indications would be present in the cockpit?
The cockpit horn sounds for 3 seconds
CAPT sw: If activated from the cabin, the signal will only be apparent in the flight deck and will only sound in the flight deck for 3 seconds
The lights in the EMER switch flash and you hear 3 long buzzers sound in the Flight Deck.
What does this indicate?
An emergency call has been made from the cabin to the flight deck
What happens when you push the MECH pb?
COCKPIT CALL illuminates in blue on the external power panel and a horn sounds in the Nose L/G bay
(Horn will sound as long as button is held)
Which button should be used to communicate with the Cabin in an emergency?
EMER CALL button
When are the CVR and FDR energized with the RCRD GND CTL PB in AUTO (extinguished)?
AUTO: (extinguished) The CVR and FDR are energized when :
On the ground, 5 minutes after electrical power to the aircraft
On the ground, after an engine start
Continuously in flight (whether engines are running or not)
On the ground, it is stopped automatically 5 minutes after the last engine shutdown
