Airframes Flashcards
What gets installed in the landing gears?
The ground safety downlock pins.
What is the safety diamond area?
The nose to the wing tips to the tail extending out 5 ft.
When floor panels are removed what needs to be done?
A suitable barrier and warning placards must be placed.
Why must there be an outside observer when operating flight controls?
To verify the area around the flight controls is clear to prevent damage or personal injury.
What hazards are posed with wing control surfaces?
Moving flaps can cause personal injury or damage to equipment.
Where does corrosion tend to be found on an aircraft?
Along the seams of aluminum alloy structures, in box beam skin areas, around plated steel fasteners, unpainted surfaces, lap joints, access doors, cowling areas.
What does the P-3 fuselage consist of?
Forward section, mid body section and aft fuselage section.
What does the center of the wings consist of?
It is the integral part of the fuselage.
What do the outer wings consist of?
Flaps, leading and trailing edge, wing tips, ailerons and engine nacelles.
What type are the wing flaps and how are they powered?
They are the high lift fowler type and powered by the aircrafts hydraulic system.
What is attached to the horizontal stabilizer and what kind of stability does it provide?
The elevators are attached and it creates longitudinal stability about the lateral axis.
What is attached to the vertical stabilizer and what kind of stability does it provide?
The rudders are attached creating directional stability about its vertical axis.
What are the rudders used for?
It moves the aircraft about the vertical axis.
What are the ailerons used for?
They control the movement of roll.
How does raising/lowering the elevators affect the aircraft?
Raising- aircraft climbs
Lowering- aircraft dives or descends
