natural resources
Those elements of nature that have value, such as timber, soil, fresh water, or a mineral deposit.
environment
All the conditions, circumstances, and influencers surrounding and impacting an organism
pollutants
substances introduced to the environment that have harmful effects or can make a resource less useful.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
This agency encourages policy that benefit the environment and help regulate businesses so that the pollutants that they make will not overwhelm the environment
pesticides
Chemicals designed to kill insects, and fertilizers.
Erosion
Wearing away of soil, usually due to either water or wind.
topsoil
The soil on the surface and is the richest and most fertile.
herbicides
Chemicals designed to kill certain plants.
water table
The top zone of the soil and rock where water fills the voids. In other words it is the water under the surface that will eventually make its way to open water sources.
ecosystem
A community of independent organisms in an environment.
ozone layer
This layer of air forms a barrier between the earth’s atmosphere ( what we breathe) and the sun.
Parasitism
This term describes relationships in which one organism lives off another, often to the other’s detriment.
Mutualism
If two animals are in a relationship that benefits them
both
Predation
When one animal eats another.
Commensalism
In this relationship, two animals interact with each other but it’s neither positive nor negative.
