aggresion Flashcards
what does agression mean
what does asssertion mean
aggresion- intent to harm outside the rules, uncontrolled, hostile bhehaviour.
assertion- well motivated behaviour within the rules- no intent to harm.
what are the explainations of aggresion
instint theory
frustration-agression hypothesis
agression cue hypothesis
social learning theory
whats instinct theory and evaluate
aggresion response is innate as its a product of evolution eg defending home pitch
they use sport as an outlet for built up agression. this is called catharsis.
evaluate
-agression can be learned
-not everyone is naturally aggresive
what is the frustration-aggresion hypothesis and evaluate
the build of frustation causes agressive behaviour.
this happens when goals are blocked.
the build up of frustation can be reduced if an agresive act is carried out, this is called catharsis, if this isnt done more frustration is built up and it leads to more aggresion.
eg fouled whilst running to shoot into the goal, might retalisate by pushing the player that fouled him, this released agression may calm the sitch down and catharsis might occur.if not he will become more frustarted so are prone to more agressive behaviour.
can get frustrated due to- loosing, poor play, disagreement w ref, being fouled.
evaluate-
not all frustation leads to agression
aggresive cue hypothesis
aggresion is caused by a learned trigger.
when these learned cues are present they act as a stimulous for the performer to act aggresivly.
eg if someone is marking you to closly and you push them away and the coach lets you get away with it, in the future when someones marking you to closly you may do the same thing, because it becomes a learned cue.
social learning theory
aggression is learned from others.
is learned by observing others, identifying w them, when aggressive behaviour is reinfoeced to them they copy it.
learned from significant others or those we hold in high esteem eg role models, coach
