AERONAUTICAL FIXED SERVICE Flashcards
a telecommunication service between specified fixed points provided primarily for the safety of air navigation and for the regular, efficient and economical operation of air service
Aeronautical fixed service
any scheduled ___ performed by aircraft for the public transport of passengers mail or cargo
Air service
The AFS is provided by voice and data networks including __
AFTN, AMHS, and CIDIN
Comprise the system and applications that are used for ground communication in the international aeronautical telecommunication service
Aeronautical Fixed Service
ground to ground communication in ICAO realm
AFTN - Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network
Ground to ground communication between ATCs and pilots. communication mismo sa operation ng air service
AMHS - Aeronautical Message Handling System
telecommunication service in which they transmit text or binary messages for the purpose of air traffic control for specified fixed points
CIDIN - Common ICAO data interchange network
Aeronautical fixed service composed of:
- ATS direct speech circuits and network
- Meteorological operational circuit, network and broadcast system
- Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication network (AFTN)
- Air Traffic Service Handling System ( AMHS )
- Inter-center communication (ICC)
- Fixed Service Station (FSS)
main FSS in the Philippines
RPUO FSS - BASCO AIRPORT
RPUT FSS - TUGUEGARAO AIRPORT
RPUY FSS - CAUAYAN AIRPORT
RPUQ FSS- MINDORO (VIGAN) AIRPORT
Air traffic facilities that informational services to aircraft pilots before after and during flights but unlike air traffic control they are not responsible for giving advice and clearance. They only provide information mostly NOTAM and flight plans etc
Fixed Station Services
A worldwide system of aeronautical fixed circuits provided, as part of the aeronautical fixed service, for the exchange of messages and/or digital data between aeronautical fixed stations having the same or compatible communications characteristics.
AFTN - Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network
The AFTN uses two types of aeronautical fixed stations:
AFTN communication centres and AFTN stations
___ is an AFTN station whose primary function is to relay AFTN messages to or from a number of other interconnected AFT stations.
AFTN communication centre
AFTN uses ___ as code to transmit message

MESSAGE CATEGORY
The following are the categories of messages that should be handled by the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network:
Distress Messages
Urgency Messages
Flight Safety Messages
Meteorological Messages
Flight Regularity Messages
Aeronautical Information Services Messages
Aeronautical Administrative Messages
Service Message
Comprises those messages sent by mobile stations reporting that they are threatened by grave and imminent danger and other messages relative to the immediate assistance required by the mobile station in distress. Needs immediate assistance
DISTRESS MESSAGES (SS)
Movement and control messages Messages originated by aircraft operating agency of immediate concern to aircraft in flight or preparing to depart.
FLIGHT SAFETY MESSAGES (FF)
Meteorological messages restricted to SIGMENT information, special air reports, AIRMET messages. Volcanic ash and tropical cyclone advisory information and amended forecast.
Flight Safety Message (FF)
Aircraft load messages required for weight and balance computation. Changes in aircraft operating schedule. Concerning aircraft servicing.
FLIGHT REGULARITY MESSAGE (GG)
Concerning changes in collective requirements for passengers, crew and cargo covered by deviation from normal operating schedules.
FLIGHT REGULARITY MESSAGE (GG)
Concerning NOTAMS
Concerning ASHTAMS
AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICE (GG)
Regarding the operation or maintenance of facilities provided the safety and regularity of aircraft operations.
AERONAUTICAL ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGES (KK)
Concerning the functioning of aeronautical telecommunications services.
AERONAUTICAL ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGES (KK)
Exchange between civil aeronautical authorities relating to aeronautical services.
AERONAUTICAL ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGES (KK)
Originated by aeronautical fixed stations to obtain information or verification concerning other messages which appear to have been transmitted incorrectly by the aeronautical fixed service, confirming channels sequence number , etc..
SERVICE MESSAGES (PRIORITY INDICATOR AS APPROPRIATE)
A four-letter code group formulated in accordance with rules prescribed by ICAO and assigned to the location of an aeronautical fixed station.
Location Indicator
Every location (airport or other facility) with a connection to the AFS is assigned a unique four letter code (the ____) by ICAO.
aeronautical location indicator
Typically, the first one or two letters of the ICAO code indicate the ___ and the remaining letters identify the ___, as indicated by the adjoining figures. ICAO codes provide geographical context.
country, airport
