Aeolian Deposition Flashcards
What is aeolian deposition ?
Entrainment/ transport and deposition of sediment by WIND.
On lands
What happens when there is a large tidal range ?
Large amounts of sand will be exposed at low tide for longer period meaning a supply of sediment can be entrained by the wind.
2 ways sand is transported by wind?
Surface creep
Saltation
Dependent on wind speed and how dry/ moist source is sand is
Surface creep
(Similar to traction)
Wind rolls/ slides sand grands over the surface
Saltation
Wind is strong enough to temporarily lift grains into airflow to heights of up to 1 mature over 20-30m
Why is wind action significant?
Shape / form lots of landforms - beach / dunes
