Q

ADIRS PANEL

Q: When is a full alignment required/quick alignment of the ADIRU required?

A

Ref: (FOM VOL. II, Section 3.05)

A complete alignment must be accomplished in the following cases:

  • “GAG CCFI”
  • GPS coverage not available and NAVAID coverage poor
  • Alaska
  • GPS not available > 3 hours
  • Class II
  • Crew change
  • First flight
  • International
  • Before the first flight of the day;
  • When there is a crew change;
  • When GPS is not available and NAVAID coverage is poor on the expected route;
  • When GPS is not available and expected flight time exceeds 3 hours;
  • All international and Alaska flights;
  • Flight in Class 2 airspace.

On other flights, a fast alignment must be accomplished any time the difference between the IRS position and the FMGC position exceeds 5 NM (see MCDU POSITION MONITOR page).

Q

ADIRS PANEL

Q: Describe the process for a full alignment of the ADIRU when the temperature is above 35 C.

A

Ref: (FOM VOL II, Section 5.40)

To perform a complete alignment with Flaps 1 and temp above 35C:

  • Confirm the aircraft area is clear with ground personnel prior to pressurizing the hydraulic system
  • Once the area is clear, turn the Y ELEC Pump ON
  • BLUE ELEC PUMP pb AUTO (should already be in AUTO)
  • BLUE PUMP OVRD pb to ON
  • Verify Hydraulic Pressure (on SD page)
  • Raise the flaps to 0
  • Y ELEC Pump OFF
  • BLUE PUMP OVRD pb OFF
  • Perform the complete ADIRS alignment
  • Confirm the aircraft area is clear with ground personnel prior to pressurizing the hydraulic system
  • Y ELEC Pump ON
  • BLUE PUMP OVRD pb ON
  • Return the flaps to 1 if still in hot weather conditions
  • Y ELEC Pump OFF
  • BLUE PUMP OVRD pb OFF

Q

ADIRS PANEL

Q: What would be missing on the Captain’s PFD and ND if IR1 failed or was turned OFF?

A

Ref: (FOM VOL. III-DSC-31-40)

Attitude and navigation information would be lost. ATT and HDG flags will be displayed on the PFD and MAP NOT AVAIL will be on the ND.

19
Q

ADIRS PANEL

Q: What action would recover the attitude and navigation information if IR1 failed or was turned off?

A

Ref: (FOM VOL. III-DSC-34-NAV-10-20)

Selecting CAPT 3 on the EIS switching panel ATT/HDG selector

Q

ADIRS PANEL

Q: Describe a post flight ADIRU accuracy check?

A

Ref: (FOM VOL II, Section 3.20)

If the drift for any IR is >5nm, refer to the IRS performance chart located in FOM VOL II, Section 3.20.
