Adenosine Flashcards
Indications and field use of Adenosine
Conversion of SVT with no A Fib or Flutter
Wide complex tachycardia of uncertain origin unresponsive to Lidocaine
Mechanisms of action for Adenosine
Slows conduction time through AV node
Slows sinus rate
Larger doses can decrease BP by decreasing peripheral resistance
Contraindications of Adenosine
Bradycardia
Sick sinus syndrome, 2nd or 3rd degree AV blocks
Use caution with known asthma
Patients on dipyridamole (persantine) or carbamazepine (Tegretol) (cardiac and seizure drugs)
Cardiac transplants
Known A Fib or Flutter
Pregnancy
