KNOW TLO’s from this lecture and lecture in general. Per MAJ Davis, 4-5 short answer questions come from this slide deck
Lecture standard = analyze medical evacuation doctrine for decisive action operations that is effective and executable; formulate priority of support using casualty estimates, Health/General Threat, integrating them into planning considerations without exception
Agenda: discuss organization, capabilities, and limitations of EAB MEDEVAC unit; discuss patient movement from Role II to definitive care
MEDEVAC Mission
MEDEVAC is a multifaceted mission, accomplished by a combination of dedicated air and ground evacuation platforms (properly marked and protected by Geneva Conventions, w/ dedicated medical pax providing enroute care, synchronized to support the joint operations area (JOA)).
What is medical evacuation

- ensures continuum of care
- serves as force multiplier
- builds morale of Soldiers by demonstrating that care is quickly available
- provides economy of force

How are patient transfers conducted?***
POI patients are usually first taken to Role II MTFs. Then, the majority of patients require additional INTRA-THEATER movement before evacuation out of theater (in-theater). Patient movement occurs at the forward, tactical, operational, and strategic levels and requires the synchronization and integration of Service component PM resources and procedures
- MUST be included in the plan
- Post-op patients require special handling
Inter vs. intra-theater aeromedical evacuation
Inter-threater aeromedical evacuation is a mission performed by the USAF with non-dedicated assets.
Intra-theater aeromedical evacuation is an Army directed mission and performed with dedicated assets.
