What are the three corrosives?
1) sexual harassment and assault
2) suicide and depression
3) racism and extremism
What is the new approach to SHARP?
- focus on prevention, cultural change
- target the potential offender instead of the potential victim
- be responsible to the bystander instead of the victim
- key message: every Soldier has a duty to intervene to prevent sexual harassment/assault before it happens

Reasons to intervene to prevent SHARP
- it is your responsibility as a leader
- to support the Army values, warrior ethos, and the Soldier’s Creed
- to prevent a criminal act
- protect your battle buddies
- to maintain unit readiness and cohesion
- to enable mission accomplishment

Ask, Care, Escort
(Methodology for suicide prevention)
Ask about suicidal thoughts, care about them, escort them to help
Resiliency
The ability to recover (“bounce back”) and adapt well from adversity, trauma, illness, changes, or misfortunes
-includes a sense of belonging in the unit, inner strength to face adversity and fears, capacity to connect with others, having caring/supporting relationships, a positive view of self, confidence in strengths/abilities to function, and capacity to manage strong feelings and impulses

7 eleven rule
We form 11 impressions within 7 seconds of meeting someone. Ie. Education/education level, competence, trustworthiness, sex-role identification
What is the Army model for inclusion?
FILOS:
F: fair treatment I: integration into the unit L: leveraging differences O: openness to differences S: shared understanding
What is the Army model for inclusive leadership?
AAME:
A: assess (stay conscious of your biases)
A: articulate (openly discuss inclusion)
M: model (listen before leading; value input)
E: enforce/reinforce (create a safe environment for open and respectful communication; reward behaviors that align with creating an inclusive environment)
Characteristics of an inclusive climate:
- interaction with each other in a way that signifies respect
- encourage the belief that everyone has worth and value
- take into account the effect of their behavior on others
- people speak up if someone is being excluded
- communicate with each other honestly
- celebrate unit members’ achievements
- offer to help each other out if unexpected situations arise
RESPECT acronym
R: recognize inherent worth of all humans
E: eliminate derogatory words or phrases
S: speak with people
P: practice empathy
E: earn (speak up if someone is being excluded)
C: consider other’s feelings before speaking acting
T: treat everyone with dignity and courtesy
