What were the Hussite Wars?
The Hussite Wars were a 13-year period of warfare, from 1421 to 1434, characterized by a series of crusading waves against the Hussite armies.
What happened in December 1421?
Sigismund’s troops caught and destroyed Zizka’s troops. However, Zizka and some of his troops were able to escape and gather themselves.
When did the Hussites defeat Sigismund?
The Hussites defeated Sigismund in January 1422, forcing him to evacuate Kutna Hora. They would defeat him again, forcing him to flee east to Moravia for safety.
What happened by the summer of 1423?
Rival groups of Hussites were fighting amongst themselves.
What did Zizka do in June 1424?
Zizka abandoned his Taborites and went east to become the leader of a more moderate group known as the Orebites.
When did Jan Zizka die?
Jan Zizka died on October 11, 1424.
How many crusades did Sigismund launch during the Hussite Wars?
Sigismund launched four crusades during the Hussite Wars, all of which failed to defeat the Hussites.
What paved the way for a settlement in the Hussite Wars?
The final defeat of the crusaders in 1431 paved the way for a settlement. However, the divide in the Hussites only grew during this time, and it was just as much of a contributing factor to the settlement as the failures of Sigismund.
