9.1 Cell Parts & Functions Flashcards
What is the benefit of a prokaryotic cell?
They are more simple because they have less organelles.
What is the benefit of a eukaryotic cell?
They have more functions, meaning they can do more things.
What types of cells have membranes?
All of them
What types of cells have ribosomes?
All of them
What types of cells have cytoplasm?
All of them
What types of cells have nucleoli?
Eukaryotic cells
What types of cells have nuclei?
Eukaryotic cells
What types of cells have mitchondria?
Eukaryotic cells
What types of cells have endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, and/or vesicles?
Eukaryotic cells
What types of cells have DNA?
All of them
What types of cells have a cell wall?
Bacteria cells and animal cells
What do vesicles do?
They carry materials between cell compartments and out of the cell
What do cell membranes do?
They form a protective barrier around the outside of the cell, control what gets in and out, and help communicate
What do nuclei do?
They store DNA and help with transcription
What do cytoskeletons do?
They give a cell shape and structure, keep organelles in place, and aid in cell movement
What do mitochondiras do?
They break down molecules to get energy for the cell in the form of ATP.
What do ribosomes do?
They translate mRNA to make proteins
What do endoplasmic reticulums do?
They make lipids and hormones in the smooth portion and they make proteins in the rough portion
What do golgi apparatuses do?
They get packages of proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum and move them through a series of stacked compartments and add tags to the proteins based on where in the cell they need to go
What do lysosomes do?
They break down unneeded proteins and damaged cell parts for recycling
How do cells get rid of waste?
The membrane says it has to leave the cell, and the lysosome recycles it
How do cells serve as a container?
The membrane provides a barrier from any outside substances
How do cells contain instructions?
Either the nucleus or cytoplasm depending on what type of cell holds DNA
How do cells read instructions?
Transcription occurs in the nucleus, and translation occurs in the ribosome
How do cells get and use energy?
The mitochondria gets energy through ATP
