9. Newton's Laws - Terms & Definitions Flashcards
Acceleration
a change in velocity
Conservation of Momentum
states that in a closed system with no external forces acting on it, the total momentum of the system remains constant over time.
Force
a push or pull that attempts to create a change (in movement)
Impulse
the change in momentum of an object when a force is applied over a period of time,
Inertia
an object’s resistance to change
Mass
quantity of matter
Momentum
the product of an object’s mass and its velocity, representing the quantity of motion it possesses.
Reaction Force
the force exerted by a surface or object in response to an applied force, acting in the opposite direction according to Newton’s Third Law of Motion.
Static State
an object remains in a constant state of motion or is motionless
