16. The Effects of Loading Flashcards
Define Stress and Strain:
Stress: Amount of Force Applied to the System
Strain: The Change in Shape of the System
What is Elastic Behaviour?
What are its 2 Types?
The system stretches under load but returns to its original shape when the load is removed
- Stiff: resists deformation and exhibits high rigidity.
- Pilant: flexible and deforms easily under applied stress
Show the difference in Stiff and Pilant Elastic behaviour:
What is Plastic Behaviour?
If the force (load) exceeds a certain size, some permanent deformation may occur
What is the Yield Point?
Point where any small changes in force cause a permanent change
What does Ultimate Strength refer to?
Point where the force will break the system
Show the Stress vs Strain relationship:
Include terms like Elastic Behaviour, Plastic Behaviour, Ultimate Strength and Yield Point
Show the Load vs Frequency of Loading Graph
Highlight the Injury Threshold and different types of injury
What is the relationship betweeb risk of injury and level of activity?
