5.2 Special Segments of Triangles Flashcards
Perpendicular Bisector of a Triangle
A segment that is part of the perpendicular bisector of one of the sides
Angle Bisector of a Triangle
A segment that bisects one of the angles of a triangle
Median
A segment whose endpoints are a vertex and the midpoint of the opposite side of the triangle
Altitude
A segment from the vertex that is perpendicular to the opposite side or the line containing the opposite side
Concurrent
Two or more lines are concurrent if they intersect at a single point
Circumcenter
The circumcenter is equidistant from the vertices of the triangle
Incenter
The incenter is equidistant from the three sides of the triangle (the distances must be measured along perpendicular segments)
Centroid
The distance from any vertex to the centroid is 2/3 of the distance from that vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side
