10.1 Circles Flashcards
Circle
Set of all points in a plane that are equidistant from the given point, called the center of the circle
Interior of a Circle
All the points inside a circle
Exterior of Circle
All points outside the circle
Chord
A segment whose endpoints are on the circle
Diameter
Chord that passes through the center of the circle
Radius
Segment that has the center as an endpoint and a point on the circle as the other endpoint
Tangent
A line that intersects a circle at exactly one point
Point of Tangency
The point at which a tangent intersects the circle
Secant
A line that intersects a circle at two different points
Common Tangent
A line that is tangent to two circles
Common External Tangent
A common tangent that does not intersect the segment that joins the centers of the circles
Common Internal Tangent
A common tangent that does intersect the segment that joins the centers of the circles
Tangent Circles
Circles that have exactly one point of intersection
Concentric Circles
Circles that have the same center and have different radii
Congruent Circles
Two circles are congruent if and only if they have congruent radii
