12.1 Solids Flashcards
Faces of a polyhedron
The polygons that bound the polyhedron
Polyhedron
A solid that is bounded by polygons, called faces, that enclose a single region of space
Edge of a polyhedron
A line segment formed by the intersection of two faces of the polyhedron
Vertex of a polyhedron
A point where three or more edges meet
Tetrahedron
A polyhedron with 4 faces
Octahedron
A polyhedron with 8 faces
Dodecahedron
A polyhedron with 12 faces
Icosahedron
A polyhedron with 20 faces
Surface of a polyhedron
Consists of all points on its faces
Convex polygon
If any two points on its surface can be connected by a line segment that lines entirely inside or on the polyhedron, then it’s convex
Regular polyhedron
A polyhedron where all of the faces are congruent and regular polygons and the same number of faces meet at each vertex in exactly the same way
Regular tetrahedron
A regular polyhedron with 4 triangular faces
Cube
A regular polyhedron with 6 square faces
Regular octahedron
A regular polyhedron with 8 triangular faces
Regular dodecahedron
A regular polyhedron with 12 pentagon faces
