4.1 Congruent Triangles Flashcards
Congruent Triangles
If (triangle sign) ABC is congruent to (triangle sign) PRQ, then there is a correspondence between their angles and sides such that corresponding sides are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent
Equilateral Triangles
An equilateral triangle is a triangle that has 3 congruent sides
Isosceles Triangle
An isosceles triangle is a triangle that has at least 2 congruent sides
Scalene Triangle
A scalene triangle is a triangle that has no congruent sides
Acute Triangle
An acute triangle is a triangle that has 3 acute angles
Equiangular Triangles
An equiangular triangle is a triangle that has 3 congruent angles
Right Triangle
A right triangle is a triangle that has exactly one right angle
Obtuse Triangle
An obtuse triangle is a triangle that has exactly one obtuse angle
Vertex
The intersection point of the two sides of the angle
Opposite Side
In (triangle sign) ABC, line AB is opposite to (angle sign) C
Adjacent Side
In a triangle or other polygon, two sides that share a common vertex are called adjacent sides
Legs of a Right Triangle
In a right triangle, the two sides that are adjacent to the right angle are the legs of the triangle
Hypotenuse
In a right triangle, the side opposite to the right angle is the hypotenuse of the triangle
Legs of an Isosceles Triangle
In an isosceles triangle with exactly two congruent sides, the 2 congruent sides are called the legs
Base of an Isosceles Triangle
In an isosceles triangle with exactly two congruent sides, the third (noncongruent) side is called the base
