4.3 Study Guide Flashcards
What are greenhouse gases
Atmospheric gases that can absorb/release invisible light
Examples of greenhouse gasses
CO2, Ozone, Water Vapor, Methane
What do greenhouse gasses do
Trap heat in the atmosphere
Why is the greenhouse affect important
Keeps planet at a suitable temperature to sustain life
How have humans affected the greenhouse affect
Added greenhouse gasses and increased temperatures
More CO2 in an ice core
Warmer and thinner ice core (more CO2 on Earth means warmer climate which means less snow)
Less CO2 in an ice core
Colder and thicker ice core (less CO2 in atmosphere means cooler temperatures which means more snow)
Positive feedback loop
Output amplifies initial disturbance (A produces B which creates more of A)
Negative feedback loop
Output restricts initial disturbance (A produces B which reduces amount of A)
