Q

The use of animal studies to develop understanding of human neurological disorders

A

Rats, mice, rabbits, Primates- Used to develop medication.

better understand the physiological changes to the disorder in order to prevent the disease

causes and treatments of PD is similar in both animals and humans because of similarities in the brain, and that the nervous system of these animals will respond in the same way to damage and treatment. Motor symptoms can observe similarity

Q

what neuroimaging techniques are used for PD

A

PET and fMRI is useful when investigating and diagnosing PD

Can measure changes in the release of dopamine at synapses

Q

what is spatial neglect

A

Attentional disorder characterized by behaviour indicating a failure to notice anything either on the left or right side of the body and external environment even thought there may be no sensory loss.
- Usually right parietal lobe is damaged.

Q

what is aphasia

A

A language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate after a stroke or head injury.

Broca’s aphasia- have damage that primarily affects the frontal lobe of the brain. right-sided weakness or paralysis of the arm and leg. they can comparand what your saying but find it hard to communicate through words.

e.g- what have i done today? - Wrote……pen……blue

Wernickes aphasia- impaired language comprehension. stroke affecting the temporal lobe. Can talk just fine however find it hard to comprehend what you have said.

E.g What have i done today- I believe that the queen will live forever, how lovely is pineapple.
