abstinence syndrome
sx that occur on withdrawal of a drug in a dependent person
dependence
a state characterized by sx when a drug is withdrawn from chronic use, typically w opposite sx from what the drug causes
designer drug
a synthetic derivative of a drug with slightly modified structure to help with illicit drug use
tolerance
a decreased response to a drug, necessitating larger doses to achieve the same effect
sensitization
an increased response with repetition of the same dose of a drug
