3.8 Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Define active transport
A
the movement of molecules or ions into or out of a cell from a region of lower concentration to region of higher concentration using energy and carrier molecules.
2
Q
What are the four ways it differs from passive transport?
A
Energy (ATP) is needed
Materials move against the concentration gradient
Carrier protein molecules (pumps) are involved
The process is selective
3
Q
What are the two ways active transport can use ATP?
A
By using ATP directly to move molecules
OR
Co-transport
