3.7 Visualisation Flashcards
Visualisation
Is a skill involving the ability to watch yourself in your minds eye
Successful visualisation
Seeing/visualise - the use of sight to visualise your performance
Hearing/auditory - you may hear the sounds associated with your performance
Feel/ kinaesthetic - the ability to feel yourself moving
Why visualise
It affects physical functioning. When Visualising small messages are sent via ur nervous system to the muscle groups involved
It helps accelerate the learning process
Visualisation will help complement physical practice by establishing the necessary links and connections via nervous pathway between brains and the muscles required to perform movement skills
Using visualisation
Aid concentration- to maintain focus and exclude distraction
Reduce anxiety and physical tension - which can assist athlete to achieve optimal arousal and performance
Suggest a possible course of action - Visualisation of techniques that may be appropriate courses of action could include
Mental rehearsal
The process of imagining yourself performing a specific movement or skill
There are 5 techniques
1) performance practice
2) instant pre play
3) during performance
4) instant replay
5) performance review
