Q

Compare nd contrast the strutcure of eukaryotic and prokaryotic

A

Eukaryotic has membrane bound organelles like mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum prokaryote doesnt
Euk has nucleaus Prok doesnt
The DNA in Euk is long and linear DNa in Prok is short and circular
Euk has larger ribosomes(80s) than Prok(70s)
Cell wall only in plants algae and fungi for Prok they all hace cell walls
Plasmids and never present in euk but are present in prok
Euk are larger than Prok

Q

Describe the general structure of a virus particle

A
  1. nuceluic acids surround by a capsid
  2. attatchment proteins allow attatchment to specifc host cells
3.no cytoplasm ribosomes and cell wall

Q

Describe the general structure of prokarytoic cells

A

The organalles that arealways present are
Cell surface membrane
Cell wall
Cytoplasm
Smalll ribosomes(70s)
Circular DNA-Not associated with proteins and Free in cytoplasm
The ones that are sometimes present
Capsule

Q

Explain why viruses Are described as accelular and non living

A

Acellular- Not made of cells no cell membrane/cytoplasm/organelles
Non living-Has no metabolism, Cannot independently move/respire/replicate/excrete
