What can be determined from low resolution mass spectrometry
Mr but can not determine molecular formula
What can be determined from high resolution mass spectrometry
Show mr to 4 decimal places so can determine molecular formula but can not always determine compound as some have sane molecular formula
What is infrared spectroscopy
Bonds in a molecule absorb infrared radiation and produce a graph so can identify functional groups
What is finger print region
Unique to every compound so can identify them
How can you identify impurities
Use spectra of pure compound and compare to impure compound
