What is the order from urbanisation to regeneration?
Urbanisation, Suburbanisation, De-industrialisation, Counter-urbanisation, Regeneration
What is the difference between suburbanisation and counter-urbanisation?
Suburbanisation is movement of people to outskirts of city, counter-urbanisation is movement of people to rural areas.
What is regeneration?
The redevelopment of run-down inner city areas to attract people to live in the city centres.
Give the characteristics of a commercial area
Eg. Office buildings, shopping centres, hotels
Mostly found in CBD
Taller and higher density buildings
What are the characteristics of an industrial area
Eg. Factories, warehouses
Away from city centre, often in inner city
Good transport links
What are the characteristics of a residential area
Eg. Houses, flats, and apartments
Lower density buildings
Oldest properties are found closer to city centre
What is the difference between accessibility and availability?
Availability is amount of land free to buy and regenerate. Accessibility is how accesible a place is eg. Shopping centre
What are the four different factors that affect land use
Accessibility, Availability, Cost, Planning Regulations.
How are the planning regulations for land use decided?
The city authorities decide and have plans that shows which land uses will be permitted in each part of the city.
Why are there becoming more out of town shopping centres?
Because good transport links (eg. Motorways) make it easily accessible.
What are the London examples of Industrial, Commercial, and Residential areas?
Residential: New Malden
Industrial: Purley Way, Croydon
Commercial: Canary Wharf
