low calcium, low phosphate, raised ALP

check mother’s vitamin D
two things to consider in nutritional rickets?
- dietary calcium
- serum vitamin D
what is vit. D deficiency level? v. insufficiency?
deficiency <30
insufficiency: 30-50
ok: >50
abnormal gut function in vit D?
coeliac
CF - pancreatic
biliary obstruction
what is calcium deficiency level? v. insufficiency?
intake per day
deficient: <300mg
insufficient: 300-500mg
sufficient: 500mg
what does prolonged hypocalcaemia do?
hyperparathyroidism
High ALP + hypophosphataemia
osteomalacia/rickets
where is the most sensitive place to detect rickets on x-ray?
distal radius/ulna
prevention of rickets, best way?
400iu of Vit. D for ALL children for first year of life
