3.1 Autotrophs and Heterotrophs Flashcards
1
Q
What are autotrophs? What are their 2 types?
A
- Make their own food/organic compounds using non-living resources.
- Photosynthetic and chemosynthetic
2
Q
What are photosynthetic autotrophs?
A
Plants and photosynthetic algae, which use energy from sunlight to produce glucose (food).
3
Q
What are chemosynthetic autotrophs?
A
Prokaryotes, which obtain energy inorganic chemical reactions.
4
Q
What are heterotrophs?
A
- Herbivores, saprotrophic heterotrophs, carnivores, insectivores, and omnivores.
- Consume other organisms or their products since they can’t make their own food.
5
Q
What do omnivores eat?
A
Both plants and animals
6
Q
What are saprotrophic heterotrophs
A
Organisms that digest food outside themselves then absorb the digested material
Eg. Fungi
