10.2 Genomes and Genetic Research Flashcards
1
Q
What is a genome and how can it be determined?
A
Is all the genetic info in an organism, and can be determined by using genetic or DNA sequencing.
2
Q
What was the Human Genome Project’s (1990-2003) aim?
A
Its aim was to determine the complete human genome (order of nucleotides of every chromosome in a human)
3
Q
What can genome sequencing use for?
A
-To compare how closely related species are.
(The few DNA mutations the closer a species is related)
-To determine gene function
-Early detection and diagnosis of genetic-based diseases (eg. Cancer)
